There are a range of barriers that could exist when i am trying to implement my chosen social media technologies.
One barrier that could cause issues could be that people are not correctly educated on social media. There may be some people in my organisation that are not familiar with social media and my have no idea how to use it, which would obviously be an issue if you wanted their area of the organisation to create and upload content to a social network.
In order to overcome the barrier that people are not correctly educated with social media we could hold some workshops, to teach people about the social medias we are going to be using. This would help to make people more confident with using them and it will also allow people to ask any questions if they are not sure about something. I think this would also be a good idea to overcome misconceptions people often have about social media.
Another issues that could be a barrier in my organisation could be technology. The technology in my organisation has a lot of filters of websites, which could cause issues as people may be unable to access the social networks that are needed.
Unfortunately i don’t think there is a lot we can do about the technology we use. If websites are blocked we can contact IT and ask them to unblock the site, but in order to do this we need our manager to also contact them to explain why we need the site unblocked. This would definitely be reasonable though if you need the site for work purposes, such as posting on social media on behalf of our organisation.
The internet in my organisation can also be slow at times, this again can make it difficult to upload content, especially if you were uploading a video.
There isn’t a lot we could do in order to overcome the issue of internet speed, as it would be too difficult to try and change this.
Accessibility is also a barrier when implementing social media, for example if someone is visually impaired then it will be very difficult for them to use social media.
It’s important to think about accessibility when creating things for social media. If you are creating a video for social media it’s a good idea to use sound and subtitles. If you have both of these then it means if someone is deaf they can read the subtitles on the video and understand what the video is about. Sound is also important as it means that if someone is visually impaired then they are able to listen to the video.
When posting on social media its important to keep your posts quite simple, and not to use jargon, jargon can confuse people and they may not fully understand what you are trying to say in your post.
