Benefits
Social media is growing day by day and the number of users are growing, as well as more businesses going onto social media.
Social media can be great for things such as increasing the brand awareness of your business, which can lead to you getting new customers. Social media is a free way of advertising your business, but you can also do paid adverts if you want to, which increases the amount of people reached, as it allows you to target people who are interested in things similar to your business. Free use of social media gains you organic (not paid for) traffic (people).
Social media can also be used to increase the amount of traffic you are getting to your website, as if new people are learning about your business through social media, these same people may be interested in seeing what your website has to offer.
As well as gaining more brand awareness, social media can be a great way to connect with customers. It gives them a chance to comment on what you are doing and it also allows you to show that you appreciate their thoughts, by replying to what they have to say.
Limitations
As well as social media having a wide range of benefits there are also limitations.
For example, social media is often used when someone wants to complain about a business. People will often write a complaint onto a businesses wall, for everyone else to see. If you as a business do not respond to these comments in the correct way then this can cause a lot of backlash from customers.
There are people out there who try to hack accounts, this is a major problem if it happens to you. If someone were to access your businesses social media accounts this could cause a problem, as they could post as though they were you, and your followers would believe that what was being written was coming from your business. If you got hacked through social media this could ruin your businesses reputation depending on what the hacker does when they have access to your account. Getting your social media accounts hacked could also cost you a lot of money. Many hackers will want money in return for handing your social media accounts back to you.
Not knowing how to correctly manage social media – This again can cause issues. If you don’t know how to manage social media correctly this can cause issues, you could end up posting the wrong things, which can be bad for a business. If you want to create social media for your business, make sure you know how to do it correctly.
